Savaii Culinary Training Inspires Local Chefs

Fifteen chefs from Savaii in Samoa are raring to take their culinary skills to another level after a hands-on training has inspired them to use more local foods in their menus. The chefs from small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), hotels and resorts attended the Savaii Culinary Training workshop at Amoa Resort from 3rd-7th August, which was implemented by the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) in partnership with the European Union and the Samoa Tourism Authority. New Zealand based Hawaiian Celebrity Chef, Collin Chung, spent the week teaching the chefs how to make innovate dishes using local foods and produce. The training focused on encouraging the use of local foods in cuisine, promoting creativity in food preparation and working with local communities to facilitate the supply of fresh and high-quality produce, and was a a prelude for the chefs’ participation at the annual Teuila Festival which will be held in September.
