Cook Islands: Value adding through product development

Robert Wyllie, the founder of Rito products presented his business at the recent agritourism workshop held in Cook Islands organised by the Cook Island Government in collaboration with CTA, PIPSO, SPTO, SPC, IFAD. The aim of the workshop was to support a national policy linking agriculture and tourism and identify products which can be in demand by the tourism industry (hotels, restaurants, cruises, airports…).

Rito products markets coconut based beauty product. The company produces coconut and tamanu oils. Seventy (70) percent of the products are for the overseas tourist market, 30% for the local market for tourists and 5% for locals. The company also offers tours to visitors to operation site to view how the products are produced. Over the years they have to change the design of the products to make it suitable for the tourism markets.
